  • Taal dadra - 6 matra
  • Taal kehrwa - 8 matra 
  • Taal jhaptaal - 10 matra 
  • Taal tritaal - 16 matra 
  • Taal ektaal - 12 matra 

  • Taal dadra - 6 matra 

Taal dadra is of 6 matras or beat pattern which is divided into 2 sections. on first beat out of 6 beat is known as "sam" and "khali" is on the 4th beat. This taal usually you can learn in starting lessons of music, but can have more improvisation deend on players

  • Taal kehrwa - 8 matra 

Taal kehrwa is 8 beat pattern, here eight beats are divided into 2 sections equally. first beat out of 8 beats known as "sam" and 5th beat is "khali". the taal kehrwa is used in many songs, it is a very popular beat pattern in indian bollywood songs.



  • Taal jhaptaal - 10 matra 


  • Taal jhaptaal is of 10 beats and these 10 beats are divided into 4 sections in which 2 sections are of 2 beats and other 2 sections are of 3 beats. In jhaptaal 1st, 2nd, 3rd beats out 10 beats known to as "sam" and 6th beats is "khali". jhaptaal is not common you have to find in some songs but really smoothing to ears

    • Taal tritaal is one of the most playing beat patterns because in 16 matras players have time intervals to take more groovy and according to what they need. Tritaal is of 16 matras which are divided into 4 sections in which every section there is 4 beats equally. first, fifth, and on the thirteenth beat known as "sam" and nineth is "khali". The taal tritaal is another famous beat pattern usually heard in bollywood songs.


      • Taal ektaal - 12 matra

      Taal ektaal is basically of 12 matra, it is most commonly use in khayaal form of singing. The 12 matras of ektaal have 6 sections in which each have 2 beats. Ektaal is usually played in dugun lay (fast speed). 1st , 5th, 9th, 11th beats are known to be "taali" and 3rd and 7th beats as "khali".
